Monterosso is undoubtedly the most renowned village of the Cinque Terre, and is easily reachable by car or by train. From Monterosso there are hiking trails to Vernazza and Levanto, which pass through olive groves and vineyards on hillsides that fall straight down to the sea. They provide a breathtaking experience for those who have a passion for the infinite beauties of nature, the century old traces of human labour in terracing the vineyards, and the simple finesse of an antique and unique architecture. L'Uccelliera is a former hunting lodge built at the end of the nineteenth century on a hill just above the village of Monterosso. It is surrounded by vineyards as well as lemon trees, and is immersed in the scent of pine trees and brooms. There are outstanding views from either side of the property; the eastern side looks out to the Cinque Terre as far as the island of Timo, and the western side has a view of Punta Mesco that stands out from the sea. The villa is part of a 5000 square metre estate that extends on two sides of a hill cultivated with vineyards, lemon trees, and a vegetable garden. The old town of Monterosso is just at a ten minute walk away, reachable by a footpath that goes past a Capuchin convent. A shorter path from the house leads to the sea.
