PATTI is an ancient Sicilian town, well-known because of its handicraft ceramics, placed on the western Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily, 65 km away from Messina. Worth visiting are: the Norman Cathedral, the ruins of the Roman Villa with its precious mosaics, the museum of ceramics; Tyndaris, very ancient Roman-Greek town founded in 396 B.C. whose important archaeological site still keeps the original Greek Theatre, the Basilica, the thermal baths and the ruins of the ancient walls; the Natural Reserve of Tindari with its peculiar dunes of sand enclosing three salty water little lakes and also with its interesting marine caves reachable either on foot or by boot. Some of the most important happenings worth attending are: “la processione delle varette” (religious procession on the Holy Friday), “a fera” (the fair) Santa Febronia’s feast (patroness of the town) on the last week-end of July, “Tindari Estate” a prose, music, ballet review on stage in the suggestive Greek theatre of Tindari during the summer months July and August; Our Lady of Sorrows’ feast with its peculiar sea procession occurring on the second week-end of September.
